Ballast: A Fall Equinox Half-Day

Saturday, September 19, 11 am - 2:30 pm; $150
In-Person, Sacramento, CA

You can usually feel it a week before the calendar confirms it. The light goes slantwise, the air loses its water, and something in you starts moving faster than it needs to.

The equinox just makes it official: equal light, equal dark. Then it tips, and fall takes it from there.Ayurveda has a name for what comes next: vata season. Dry, cold, windy, fast, scattered. If autumn usually arrives and drags you along with it — sleep gets thin, skin gets dry, the list gets loud, and you find yourself running on fumes and calling it productivity — you’re not doing it wrong. I always call autumn a “tricky transition” — more bluntly, it’s a season with a strong personality and no manners.

Ballast is the weight a ship takes on to keep from being blown around. The thing that lets you stay upright in any kind of weather. That's what this afternoon is for.

Slowly, on purpose, in my home, with nine other people.

The afternoon plan:

We move. A grounding practice with some warmth in it — active enough to feel like something, slow enough to catch up with yourself.

We eat. I'm cooking a couple of seasonal dishes, and we'll sit down with them properly (calm, seated, plated).

We learn. I'll teach the ayurveda that's actually useful: what vata season does to a body, and the small handful of habits that counter it. No dosha quiz. No supplement list. Twenty-some years of practicing this, distilled to what you'll actually use this fall.

We blend. You'll learn abhyanga — self-massage with warm oil, my favorite thing Ayurveda offers for a dry, fast season. Then you'll make your own personalized oil blend to take home. Everything is provided.

We sit with it. Some reflection on what the rest of the year is actually asking of you.

We close. A shorter practice to finish — mostly restorative, with a little warmth (movement snacks to keep your body happy). You’ll go home slower than you came.

This is for you if you can feel fall coming and you don't want to look up in November wondering where it went.

This is not a reset, a cleanse, or a fourth-quarter push. Nothing about you needs fixing before winter.

Ten spots. Address sent after you register.

I love to pamper you! And these opportunities to be together in person are precious. If you have questions, reach out.
