Even if you think it’s too late and you don’t know where to start, you can build muscle and prevent bone loss through strength training (and do it safely)

The Mindful Muscle Club is a 3-month live, online cohort for women in midlife and beyond who don’t love fitness environments but know they need to do strength work.

This is for you if the last time you stepped foot in a gym was in the 80s — or never!

Or you're tired of fitness spaces that push too hard, too fast.

You know you need strength, but your joints feel sensitive, your energy is inconsistent, and you want to honor the season you're in — not fight against it.

(We’re speaking the same language here!)

This program was made for midlife and menopausal women like you — women who want to support their joints, maintain balance and stay strong to do things… but who also want humor, a realistic pace, and support along the way.

The Mindful Muscle Club takes the pressure off and gives you a clear, doable path.

If you are concerned about the effect your current strength level will have on your body as you age, you belong here.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

  • 12 weeks of safe strength training progression

  • Small group cohort experience

  • 2 LIVE online 45-minute strength classes a week

  • Nervous system support + stretch sessions

MEET the club queen

Hi, I’M Michelle.

To be fair, I’ve always loved working out.

Although I've taught yoga for 25 years, my personal movement practice has long included strength work. It’s helped me through bouts of depression, periods of loss, and more recently, after cancer and a hysterectomy thrust me into menopause.

Honestly, I had no idea menopause would be this hard. So many body changes, seemingly overnight. Strange symptoms no one talks about.

When I started talking about what I was going through, the floodgates opened — so many women relating, lamenting. Sharing what we were going through helped us all feel less alone.

That prompted me to go deep into the science of hormone changes and menopause symptoms, especially around muscle and bone loss.

The one thing that helps counter those changes? Strength training.

we Need Strength Training

After 40, strength training is essential for women. Like absolutely non-negotiable.

We lose 3-8% of muscle mass per decade after age 30, and that only increases as we get older. After menopause, the annual loss rate of bone mass is 1.5%–2.5%.

(I feel this in my own body. Maybe you do, too.)

As a woman in her 50s, these numbers set me on a mission to get serious about strength work.

This passion means you get education and expertise from someone who can relate. I’ve been around the block. I’m post menopausal and dealing with aaallll the body changes, including muscle and bone loss.

I also have decades of experience teaching people who didn’t believe they could do something, and wound up surprising themselves. As a student recently said: I am surprised when Michelle asks us to try a heavier weight… and I can do it!

Because of the strength classes, I am feeling much stronger after my surgery and slothfulness of the last few years. It FEELS GREAT!

~Susan M

The Strength + Stretch classes are a super fun way to begin using weights, and they feel safe and progressive. There is no pressure to overdo things, but encouragement to explore what might be possible.

Where yoga meets iron

→ The mindfulness of yoga applied to strength work — slow, intentional, aware.

→ An alignment-focused approach with clear explanations and the most effective exercises for your body.

→ Classes are casual and interactive — you get to ask questions on the spot.

→ No bootcamp energy here — just compassionate, smart movement that works with your body.

Go at your own pacewith loving nudges. I’ll help you find your “appropriate challenge” so you can get stronger safely.

Because as much as we love yoga, unfortunately, things like yoga and walking (my two favorite things) don’t build bone. We HAVE to work with weights.

What makes this different?

You’ve tried before and it didn’t stick. Why is this different?

REal

This is a club for real women. No myth of perfection, nothing to prove. We just want to age in a healthy way and feel great.

warm

The vibe here is welcoming and encouraging. And not in a forced or fake way. You get to show up as you are and I will be genuinely happy to see you.

lighthearted

We don’t take ourselves too seriously here. There’s laughter, fun and a lot of 80s movie and music references.

bold

Despite what every advertisement would have you believe, your body is incredible, resilient and capable. Walk away from anything that makes you feel weak or fragile.

personal

This is a small group experience and you have direct access to me. You’ll be with the same cohort for the 12 weeks with individual attention.

Experienced

I’ve been doing this for 25 years. And this isn’t a group of 20 year olds (bless their hearts). We are midlife and beyond, we speak the same language.

Here’s How it works

We start after the back-to-school rush and end before Thanksgiving.
Club cohort runs from September 8 - November 23, 2025, then you’ll graduate into the main studio.
You’ll be in a small cohort with loving support and accountability.
All classes take place on Zoom.

Two Live Strength Classes

We’ll work out together every Tuesday and Thursday at 8 am PT. The classes are 45 minutes — 30ish minutes of workout, followed by stretching. Can’t make it? All classes are recorded.

Two short recordings

In addition to the live classes, you get two short recordings each week: one mini workout and one short recovery practice. These are optional — you might need more work or rest depending on your week and how you’re feeling.

Monthly live sesh

Each month, we’ll have a live session on a special topic, like how to increase weight and how to avoid injury. You’ll also be able to ask questions and get individual feedback. Sessions are recorded.

Having so many practices and ways of moving my body to strengthen weak areas is so wonderful, keeping it fun and not at all boring.  And it's easy to get it done. So many moves and techniques that I now integrate into my day.

~Mary

I joined because of the focus on pelvic floor and strength taught from a posture of generosity, compassion and belief that we can do things that are hard.

The strength videos are long enough to make a difference and slow enough that I can get into position and focus on alignment.

Build your strength and body health.

 QUestions?

  • You don’t have time not to do this. Every woman over 40 needs to be doing strength work to counter muscle and bone loss. Walking, yoga, swimming, dance or other activities you’re doing are wonderful! But they. don’t. build. bone.
And the truth is, you make time for other people and what they need. You take care of everyone else. This is time for YOU to claim as yours to take care of your body and spirit. As a friend of mine says, “Your future self in 10 or 20 years will thank you.”

  • Yep, of course you do. Culture trains us that it’s selfish to look after ourselves as women. We are supposed to take care of everyone else and the house and dog and make it look easy. Here at It’s All Yoga and in the Mindful Muscle Club, we don’t roll that way.
Because, can we be honest? You make time for other people and everything they need. This is something for YOU. You can’t pour from an empty vessel. This is your sacred time – your time to keep a promise to yourself.
We’re actually getting strong in multiple ways. Yes, you’re building your physical strength, AND you’re building the muscle of taking care of yourself. Building the muscle of doing something you’re not good at – prioritizing yourself, claiming time for yourself.
And together, we are training ourselves to undo the cultural conditioning that says we should be last on the list. This is big work that can only be done with accountability and community.

  • This program is for you if you’ve never worked out (or if you haven’t been to the gym since your 20s). We start at the beginning and progress gradually. Injury prevention is my number one goal. Number two is that you get stronger – but you can’t get stronger if you get hurt.
So we go slow, focus on alignment and build gradually. (A new member recently commented that every other strength class she tried prior to ours was “waaaay too fast!”) Our pace and approach is just right.

  • You are in the right place.
It IS really hard to start something new or out of your comfort zone. You might be feeling shame or like you’ll never catch up. I know you have questions and don’t know where to start.
The workout world is vast and full of decisions: Should I buy weights? How heavy? What exercises should I do? How long should a workout be? How do I know if it’s working?
These are all valid questions and you are not expected to know the answers!
The good news is, I have worked with hundreds of people just starting out and I know how to break everything down into simple steps, get you started, and structure workouts so you gradually get stronger. I’ve got you!

  • Then you NEED to be here! Unfortunately, yoga, walking, swimming, tai chi, etc. are not enough to build bone. Bone density declines 1-2% per year post menopause. The only thing that builds bone is strength or resistance training. That’s what this program is about. And with this program, you’ll build strength SAFELY. The data shows strength training can reduce bone fracture risk by 15-20%. It is never too late to start.

  • It might! I can’t promise anything, but the feedback I’ve gotten is that strength training helps mood, energy level, sleep and hot flashes. It will help your muscle and bone loss – the invisible symptoms. (add actual testimonial)

  • What I hear from member is they LOVE being online. They see me clearly on the screen and I give them feedback and answer questions on the spot. Classes are interactive and lively. One member shared, “I can’t believe it, it’s like you’re in the room with me!”

  • You can choose to have your camera on or off – totally up to you! We all get to show up in our messy rooms in our PJs with bed head. It’s ALL good!

  • The equipment list is simple: a pack of therabands and a couple of hand weights. I’ll help you figure out what weight to start with and you’ll get a checklist with what you need.

  • I have no idea if I’ll run this again. If you want to start strength training, this is a great time to jump in. You’ll go through the program with your own cohort, everything is spelled out, I’m here for you and any questions you have. We start September 8th – join us!
