I Don’t Want to Get Injured. The #1 reason people don’t want to do strength training.
By far, the most common thing I hear from women is that fear of injury keeps them from starting strength training.
Heck, even women in my Strength + Stretch classes tell me they were nervous about hurting themselves when they started with weights.
These are hard truths
👉🏼 It can be nerve wracking to start a new thing... maybe something you've never done before -- both for your body to learn something new AND your brain to accept a new identity.
👉🏼 You might have sleepy muscles and old or current injuries.
👉🏼 We know that as we age, our tissues take longer to adapt + recover.
So if you are nervous about getting injured...
If you have a current shoulder or knee (or whatever) issue...
If you have tried weights before and it didn't go well...
You are not alone.
(If this is you, read on.)
I know how to keep you safe.
I have worked with thousands of people in my career. I know body mechanics, movement patterns, and how to progressively sequence a workout.
I've worked with all kinds of bodies -- ages, shapes, sizes and experience levels.
I've helped people recover from knee replacements, surgeries, injuries, broken bones and long covid.
Of course I can't guarantee that no one will ever over-do it. But the way I sequence and the options I give allow you to work in your appropriate and safe range while getting stronger.
I have been injured... and recovered.
I've been through a lot in this body: surgeries, broken bones, illnesses, injuries, cancer, menopause.
I know how to come back slow and safe.
I know how to take care and rehab.
I know what it's like to feel weak, like things will never be "back to normal."
I also have a finicky shoulder and my right wrist wants more care because it endured a break and two surgeries.
Our bodies tell the stories of our lives. And those stories are to be respected.
Don't just take my word for it.
Here are just a few comments current students have sent me in the past couple of months:
⭐️ My "bad knees" really aren't that bad anymore now that I have been working out - they have actually improved, and I can do stairs, both up and down now, with relative ease (I used to really struggle coming down).
⭐️ My shoulder is FINALLY getting stronger and feels so much more open, which is GREAT! Thank you for all the options in class.
⭐️ These strength classes have helped me so much. Several times I have been injured and they have helped me get back into shape of being able to move normally.
"What if I have an injury right now -- can I join MMC?"
Most likely, yes!
If you have knee issues, shoulder stuff, or low back pain, you can join MMC. There is always something you CAN do. And because I will know you and what you're working with, I can give options just for you.
If you have an injury or are rehabbing, reply to this email so we can chat about what's going on and make sure it's a fit.
My top priority is safety so you can keep progressing in your strength.
“The idea of needing to start some strength work to improve my bone strength had been in the back of my mind for a while, but I never got around to doing anything about it. And I definitely didn’t want to go to the gym.
So I started the Strength and Stretch classes with Michelle, which I love. They are a super fun way to begin using weights, and they feel safe and progressive. There is no pressure to overdo things, but encouragement to explore what might be possible.”
You can start strength training
– and get stronger safely –
at any age.
You don’t have to be a weight lifter.
You don't have to do it by yourself.
