What does yoga look like at your age?

Ever wonder what yoga "at your age" looks like?

In a couple of weeks, I'll be 51. I've been thinking a lot about the people I work with, past and present students, and my own body and its preferences and realities.

I recently got a wild hair and did a search for "yoga over 50."

The images that came back put on quite a show!

...contorted pretzels
...Cirque du Soleil backbends
...a woman doing a handstand on a basketball.

Whoa. I mean, that's amazing! It's just not what my body is into.

Just for kicks, I decided to see what the internet had to say about "yoga over 60."

This brought a combo of more contortionist poses... and then pictures of gray-haired people in chairs. Nothing in between.

After 25 years of practice, here's what I know about yoga. There is zero relationship between fancy/challenging poses and whole-self well-being. Sure, there are many benefits of dedicated practice, and one of those might be the ability to do poses that look impressive. Challenging ourselves is an important part of growth.

The thing that has always chaffed me about the magazine cover, Instagram-worthy, Cirque du Soleil version of yoga is that those kinds of poses can be intimidating, unsafe and are entirely unnecessary.

What about a practice for those of us who have full lives but want to make time for ourselves, who know we have to pay attention to our health, and who want to feel strong, flexible and fit? (Without hurting ourselves!)

Someone here at It's All Yoga recently said, "This is a haven where I feel restored, balanced and connected."

If your ears are perked, here's what's happening this year at It's All Yoga.

  • Tall, Elegant Posture

  • Support Your Joints with Strength Training

  • Better Balance

  • Easing Aches, Arthritis + Inflammation

And we're starting the year at the beginning...

In addition to other member-only events (like Dance Parties!), I've added a monthly Pose Lab where we workshop the topic of the month and you can ask questions about how it applies to your body.

You also get...

  • Practice with expert teachers

  • Special member offers

  • On-demand library of +100 classes of varying lengths and levels

  • 10+ Live classes a week

  • A money-back guarantee (who does that?!)

We also have so much fun.

As I've said before, I truly care about you and your well-being.

If you are curious or have been lurking here and wondering what the studio is like, let's talk!

I've been remembering the old days when someone would come through the studio door while I was cleaning or after a class, and we'd chat. They'd share about their yoga experiences -- the good and the unsavory -- and tell me what they were looking for. I could point them to teachers that would be a perfect fit, even if that teacher was at a different studio.

So let's find out if the It's All Yoga Virtual Studio could be the haven you've been longing for.

Just reply here and we'll set up a time to talk.

With love and warm wishes,
